Project Overview
Kitchen fires in food trucks spread rapidly, leaving workers with mere seconds to respond. Tacomazing Cantina needed a job aid that employees could reference quickly during high-pressure emergencies, something clear enough to read from a distance while following the P.A.S.S. fire extinguisher method.
Design Challenge
Design a printed reference guide to help food truck employees safely operate fire extinguishers during kitchen emergencies.
Learning Solution
I designed an 18″x24″ visual guide that prioritises instant comprehension through strategic use of icons, minimal text, and high-contrast design elements aligned with Tacomazing’s brand standards.
The Design Approach
Understanding that cognitive load increases dramatically during emergencies, I focused on creating a hierarchy that guides the eye naturally from threat assessment to action steps. The layout separates critical decision points from procedural steps, ensuring employees can quickly locate the information they need in a crisis situation.
Working with Brand Assets
I designed the job aid in Figma, working with the provided brand assets to create a precise layout for the 18″x24″ format. Using Manus AI, I extracted and isolated specific brand icons to maintain visual consistency while creating a custom composition that clearly illustrated each step of the P.A.S.S. technique.
For the P.A.S.S. technique visualisation, I sourced reference imagery and used ChatGPT and Manus AI to refine it into something that fit the design and clearly illustrated each step of the fire extinguisher operation.

Visual Hierarchy and Readability
Each step of the P.A.S.S. method received its own visual treatment with large, bold lettering and accompanying icons that reinforce the action required. I used Tacomazing’s brand colours strategically, applying high-contrast combinations to ensure readability even when viewed from several feet away in potentially smoke-filled conditions.
The emergency contact information sits prominently at the top with clear guidance on when to evacuate versus when to attempt fire suppression—addressing the most critical safety decision employees face. I also included a reminder to keep their back toward a clear exit, reinforcing safe positioning during fire response.
Bringing It Together
The final design balances brand identity with functional emergency communication. It feels familiar to Tacomazing employees while delivering potentially life-saving information in a format that supports quick action under pressure.

This project was created for the January 2026 Design Challenge hosted by E-Learning Designer’s Academy, which tasked participants with creating an emergency reference guide for food truck employees.
