Action Map, Visual Design, Instructional Design & eLearning Development
Business Challenge
Community organisations and safety institutions needed effective training programs to educate residents about earthquake preparedness, as traditional safety brochures and presentations failed to build practical response skills or confidence during actual emergencies.
Learning Solution
Interactive 20-minute branching scenario eLearning module using Storyline 360
Realistic home-based emergency situations with immediate feedback and consequence modeling
Decision-based learning paths beginning with “at home” scenarios, progressing through response and recovery phases
Visual design optimised for stress situations with clear, accessible interface elements
Target Impact
Designed to improve individual emergency response confidence by 60% and increase household emergency preparedness rates through practical, scenario-based learning.
My Process
I began by employing Miro to create a comprehensive Action Map, mapping out branching scenarios where learners navigate critical decision points before, during, and after an earthquake. This foundational planning allowed me to design realistic pathways that mirror the complexity of real emergency situations.
To enhance the visual storytelling aspect, I carefully selected colors and fonts that conveyed the appropriate gravity of earthquake safety while maintaining learner engagement. Accessibility remained a priority throughout development, prompting thorough testing of color contrasts and font legibility to ensure the content reached diverse learners effectively.
The interactive design strategy centered on presenting learners with thought-provoking prompts followed by meaningful choice points, each delivering tailored feedback to guide them toward optimal real-world responses. This approach transformed passive information consumption into active decision-making practice. Throughout the entire development process, I maintained strict consistency standards across all visual and interactive elements, ensuring learners experienced a cohesive and professional learning journey that built confidence through practice.
